1. Budget

Before I look at actual characteristics (many of which I cover in my indepth electric shaver reviews on this blog), just know that the price of electric shavers can range in price from $20 to over $1,000. Therefore its important that you are clear on what budget you want to set yourself.

So when you are looking to buy and electric shaver, always set your budget first before reading about your options and seeing what is out there. Obviously, quality comes with a cost, but you can still find plenty of bargains out there if you know what you’re doing. Bargains

2. Options for the Blades

Electric shavers sometimes get a bad name for not being able to get as close as a traditional razor. That’s fine for many people who simply use an electric to augment their morning routine so they can get out the door quicker. They might reserve a close shave for the weekends.

That being said, it’s still recommended to look for some options for your blade. Top electric shavers have at least 3 blade options. The Panasonic Arc family is engineered to maximise the blades in use to give you that extra smooth shaver. So the more blades you have the closer and smoother the shave you get.

Addditionally, you will find that best electric shavers also now come equiped with a pop out trimmer as standard these days. This  allows you to take down long hairs and sculpt sideburns with ease. There are also a number of options for skewing the length of the blades if you want to keep your facial hair, but simply better manage it.

3. Speed

Most people often confuse the speed of an electric shaver with the speed of shaving. Speed does not refer to how quickly you can use your electric shaver machine, but rather how fast the blades move. An electric shaver speed is measured in Cycles Per Minite (CPM). For example the one of the top Braun Shavers (BRAUN SERIES 7 799CC-6WD CC4 Wet & Dry Shaver) has a speed of 10000 CPM while the top Panosonic ones (eg Panasonic ES-LV81-K Arc5) speeds away at 14000 CPMs.

The lower the CPM, the more likely you will get a lousy shave amd an uncomfortable shave too. If you are looking for the best electric shaver for sensitive skin, be sure to stay away from low CPM electric shavers. Remember the  higher the CMPs (Cycles Per Minute) on an electric shaver, the better.

4. Battery Life

The fourth aspect to if you are in the market to buy an electric shaver is battery life. It’s best if you can find a shaver that can be plugged into a power source and used independent of one via a battery. Only having one or the other option will lead to inconvenience at some point.

An elec shaver battery should operate for at least an hour without a cord. There are some higher end models which can last for the equivalent of weeks. This is especially helpful when you’re traveling and need a close shave the entire time you’re away.

I am putting one through its paces right now and will soon pen a shaver review for this model soon. I don’t want to spoil the fun so wont say which one is in my lab right now! However this will be one of my  best electric shaver reviews 2014!!!

5. Wet and Dry

Another option to consider is whether you can use a gel or just need the convinience of dry shaving. Only one shaver in my “top 5 electric shavers” is a straight dry shaver while the rest are wet and dry.

So if you want a shaver that can tame your hair whether you’re in the shower or have just woken up, then consider a wet and dry shaver. This way you can get a closer shave while in the shower or just get a quick cut when you’re on your way out the door (or even in the car). I have noticed that most Electric shavers for men coming onto the market these days are wet and dry, so be sure to check this before you buy.

6. A Solid Guarantee and Warranty

With so many options out there, be wary of any electric shaver that doesn’t come with some type of guarantee. It’s not like you don’t have other options, after all. Even a 30 day, money back guarantee can go a long way. Typically, that’s how long it will take for you to realize whether or not a shaver is for you.

Most electronic devices come with some type of warranty and your electric shaver should be no different.
